Yeah, für mich die News des Tages: Guillermo del Toro, dessen Pans Labyrinth ich ja sehr sehr gerne mag (und über Hellboy müssen wir gar nicht erst reden), fasst, nachdem er die Dreharbeiten zu Hellboy 2 abgeschlossen hat, die Verfilmung des Buchs „At The Mountains Of Madness“ von H.P. Lovecraft ins Auge.
For it seems that after the great man finishes his current pet project, the currently-shooting Hellboy 2: The Golden Army, he’ll move onto another pet project: his long-awaited adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft’s At The Mountains Of Madness.
Madness, in which an Antartic expedition stumbles upon a mountain range taller than the Himalayas that contains an indescribable and ancient evil, has been on del Toro’s to-do list (pinned up on his fridge) for ages. In fact, location scouting for Madness had already taken place in Romania before Hellboy 2 was greenlit; if that hadn’t happened, it’s highly likely that del Toro would have been shooting it right now.
A huge Lovecraft fan, del Toro had been previously unable to find a studio willing to make At The Mountains Of Madness. Perhaps they were scared by the superficial similarity to John Carpenter’s The Thing (although, of course, Lovecraft’s tale predates that by almost seventy years), but now Universal and producers Don Murphy and Susan Montford have given del Toro their backing, it looks like this will be his next movie, ahead of his Tarzan reboot and another secret project that Empire has learned of, but can’t reveal just yet. Aaaah. Endlich ein guter Lovecraft-Film.

Da besteht ja Hoffnung, dass es demnächst mal eine brauchbare filmische Umsetzung eines Lovecraft-Romans gibt. Gab es da überhaupt schon Ansätze außerhalb der Bemühungen des Gespanns Yuzna/Gordon?
Und anschließend würde ich mir gerne eine Umsetzung von Algernon Blackwoods Erzählung “The Willows” (Die Weiden) wünschen.

Sehr schön. Pans Labyrinth war ja schon sehr stimmungsvoll.
@Boris: Der Film, der m.E. die Stimmung der Romane bis jetzt am besten eingefangen hat war der Stummfilm The Call of Cthulhu (tinyurl.com/98juf).

Ohh, lange schon hat da ja die Gerüchteküche gebrodelt, sehr schön, das es nun bald endlich los geht; wurde auch mal wieder Zeit für ein vernünftiges Lovecraftprojekt von jemanden der Ahnung hat.
Der Call of Cthulhu-Stummfilm der HPLHS ist sehr empfehlenswert, eine ganz wunderbare und liebevolle Fanadaption des Stoffes.

mountans of madness” ist kein buch, sondern eine kurzgeschichte.

Naja, “At the Mountains of Madness” ist schon eher eine (short) “novel” als eine “short story”. Und schließlich der längste Text überhaupt vom Meister.
Der Lovecraft-Film, den _ich_ ja endlich mal sehen möchte, ist die (nur halb als Animationsfilm bezeichenbare) Comic-Abfilmung “The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath” (sowieso mein persönlicher Lieblingstext vom Meister, wenn auch eher Dunsany als Cthulhu).

Irgendwie ist mir als Cineasten völlig entgangen, dass Guillermo Del Toro Lovecraft verfilmen will und Cthulhu einen Filmauftritt gewähren will =-oo
Mir blieb schon bei Hellboy vor Freude das Herz stehen, als ich die “Großen Alten” im Film sehen und erleben durfte =)
Darauf hatte ich Jahre gewartet ;)
Interessant finde ich übrigens Stuart Gordon’s DAGON – Film, der zumdindestens schon Mal in die richtige Richtung geht, aber an Del Toro reicht der bei Weitem nicht ran.
