Sorry, Warner, aber: What the Fuck? Ich habe mir ja schon immer gedacht, dass die oberen Etagen in Filmstudios auch nicht viel besser ticken, als die in der Musikindustrie, aber ich habe selten etwas so lächerliches gehört, wie das hier:

This comes to me from three different producers, so I know it’s real: Warner Bros president of production Jeff Robinov has made a new decree that “We are no longer doing movies with women in the lead”. This Neanderthal thinking comes after both Jodie Foster’s The Brave One (even though she’s had big recent hits with Flightplan and Panic Room) and Nicole Kidman’s The Invasion (as if three different directors didn’t have something to do with the awfulness of the gross receipts) under-performed at the box office recently.


Dann führt das Movieblog noch ein paar Argumente auf, warum das ziemlicher Blödsinn ist. Das Killerargument ist meiner Meinung nach dieses hier:

It’s funny that one of the examples used was “The Brave One” (with Jodi Foster), which only made about $34 million. Ok, that’s not a good number. HOWEVER, when you look at a MALE lead film with a comparable theme, the Kevin Bacon film “Death Sentence”, both films on the surface about innocent people out for revenge for the taking of a loved one, you see that the FEMALE lead film more than tripled the performance of the male lead film. Death Sentence made just $9 million.

Damn, wie blöd muss man eigentlich sein, um in die Führungsetagen der Kreativ-Industrie (argh!) aufzusteigen? Habe die dort Intelligenz-Tests und ein bestimmter IQ darf einfach nicht überschritten werden? Da werde ich doch zum Hulk zur Ripley.

[nachtrag] Bei Warner dementiert man:

Through Variety he says that he is moving forward with various films with women in the lead and is offended by these rumours. Here’s a list of films he’s working on with women in the lead:

There’s a Cameron Diaz film that is in final negotiations; he made aggressive bids for Peter Jackson’s The Lovely Bones and the Sex and the City film (with a bunch of female leads) but lost both; an adaptation of the Nicholas Sparks novel Nights in Rodanthe starring Diane Lane; Spring Breakdown is a comedy about women in their twenties on spring break; the romantic comedy Fool’s Gold stars Kate Hudson; then there’s The Justice League of America and Watchmen which feature very strong leads from female superhero characters, and not to mention the Wonder Woman film that he’s continuing to develop despite it having been on the slate for some ten years.

  2. wenn das dazu führen würde, das weniger romantische beziehungskomödien gedreht würden, hätte das wohl sogar eine gute seite… aber ich fürchte die warner blitzbirnen schrecken eher vor coolen Frauen zurück. die Heimchen und romantic-interests dürfen sicher bleiben..
