Aha. Werner Herzog dreht also einen James Bond-Film und kein Remake.

One thing the German filmmaker wanted to stress and make clear is that his next movie The Bad Lieutenant starring Nicolas Cage is NOT a remake of the 1992 Abel Ferrara of the same name, a movie made famous for Harvey Keitel’s full frontal nude scene. (Incidentally, The Piano Tuner has nothing to do with Keitel’s other full frontal movie The Piano either, in case you were wondering.)

“No, it’s not a remake,” he told us quite adamantly. “You have to delete that from your memory, though we may not be able to delete it from public perception. It’s like I keep saying, ‘A James Bond film, the newest one, is not a remake of the previous one; it’s a completely different story.’ It only has a corrupt policeman as the central character and that’s about it.”

“You won’t be able to make it clear, because it will perpetuate itself,” he lamented when it was suggested that word might get out that this is a different movie. “Once a notion like this is out, you can never correct it. Of course, it’s very fascinating to work with Nicolas Cage, he really wanted me to be the director on this film. It can’t get any better.” (Comming Soon)

Na denn. Trotzdem behaupte ich einfach mal: mit Nicholas 2-Face Cage in der Hauptrolle kann das per se nix werden und ich überlege grade, wieviele Filme es von Cage gibt, die mir so richtig wirklich gefallen. „Face/Off“ war gut, wenn auch aus heutiger Sicht ziemlich overgeacted (Oh Gott, was für ein Wort. Aber übergeschauspielert geht ja noch weniger). „Leaving Las Vegas“? Okay, der war gut, aber auch nur, weil Cage da seinen wahnsinnigen Gesichtsausdruck weglassen konnte und einfach nur die ganze Zeit deprimiert durchs Bild latschte.

Wie sagt Batzman immer so schön: der Film kann was werden, ja. Aber dann trotz Nicholas Cage, sicherlich nicht wegen Cage.

    Also auch wenn ich alles andere als ein Cage Fan bin, ich finde er hat einen gewissen Unterhaltungswert. “Ghost Rider” wär nur halb so campig ohne seine unterirdische Darstellung.

  5. Am geilsten find ich einfach immer noch Herzogs Kommentare im Interview mit defamer:

    Wonderful, yes! Let him fight! He thinks I’m doing a remake.

    Have you talked to him?

    No. I have no idea who Abel Ferrara is. But let him fight the windmills, like Don Quixote.

    Have you heard his comments at all? He says he hopes “these people die in Hell.”

    That’s beautiful!

    Do you relate to that passion?

    No, because it’s like theater thunder. It’s like being backstage in the 19th century, with the machines that make thunder. It has nothing do with with his film. But let him rave and rant; it’s good music in the background.

    You did a remake before with Nosferatu, but —

    It was not so much a remake as an homage to Murnau. But I don’t feel like doing an homage to Abel Ferrara because I don’t know what he did — I’ve never seen a film by him. I have no idea who he is. Is he Italian? Is he French? Who is he?

    Oh, come on.

    Maybe I could invite him to act in a movie! Except I don’t know what he looks like.<<

  6. also ich fand filme wie The Rock, Con Air, Lord of War und tricks cool von daher werd ich mir den neuen film mit ihm sicher auch anschauen auch wenns irgendwie auf den ersten blick nach langeweile klingt

  7. Also, ich muss dann auch mal eine Lanze für den armen Herrn Cage brechen. Folgede Filme mit ihm besitze ich und würde ich daher mindestens als gut bezeichnen ;) :

    - Raising Arizona
    - Wild at Heart
    - Red Rock West
    - Leaving Las Vegas
    - The Rock
    - Face/Off
    - Snake Eyes
    - 8MM
    - Bringing Out The Dead
    - Adaption.
    - Matchstick Men (Tricks)
    - Lord of War
    - The Weather Man

    Und gerade bei Wild at Heart schließe ich mich voll und ganz simon an :)

  8. Ich bitte Euch ! “Das Vermächtnis der Tempelritter” Fun-Entertainment de luxe ! Obwohl nicht wegen IHM, sondern wegen IHR, aber das ist ne andere Geschicht…. Aber immerhin nicht schlechter wegen IHM….

  9. Ich finds ja schon sehr erstaunlich, dass hier ausschließlich Nick Cage diskutiert wird und nicht Werner Herzog. Ich meine: WERNER HERZOG! So ziemlich der independendste, extrem europäische deutsche Regisseur bekommt sowas wie einen halben Major-Deal mit einem Hollywood-Star aus der A-Liga.

    Ich bin sehr gespannt, vor allem, weil ich das Original liebe. Eine Mischung aus Herzog und Hollywood könnte dem tatsächlich gerecht werden. Insbesondere mit Nick Cage, den ich für einen der charismatischsten Hollywood-Schauspieler halte. An seinen Rollen erkennt man, dass er guten Stoff mag, sich aber von Zeit zu Zeit durch eine Major-Produktion wie The Rock oder National Treasure im Gespräch halten muss. Wobei diese beiden Filme nicht die schlechtesten Popcorn-Movies sind. Wenn er ähnliches leistet wie in Leaving Las Vegas (wozu ihn Herzog mi Sicherheit treiben wird), dann wird das ein Knaller.
