YT Direktgangster, via We Like That

Klassischer Gangster-Stoff von Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) in unpassend moderner Optik und grandios unpassendem Soundtrack, dafür aber mit Sean Penn, Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling, Nick Nolte und Emma Stone. Mal sehen.

Los Angeles, 1949. Ruthless, Brooklyn-born mob king Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) runs the show in this town, reaping the ill-gotten gains from the drugs, the guns, the prostitutes and–if he has his way–every wire bet placed west of Chicago. And he does it all with the protection of not only his own paid goons, but also the police and the politicians who are under his control. It’s enough to intimidate even the bravest, street-hardened cop…except, perhaps, for the small, secret crew of LAPD outsiders led by Sgt. John O’Mara (Josh Brolin) and Jerry Wooters (Ryan Gosling), who come together to try to tear Cohen’s world apart. “The Gangster Squad” is a colorful retelling of events surrounding the LAPD’s efforts to take back their nascent city from one of the most dangerous mafia bosses of all time.

Hier der Trailer zu Ben Afflecks zweiter Regiearbeit “Argo”, der auf der wahren Geschichte eines irren Vorhabens der CIA beruht, die einen Fake-SciFi-Film entwickelten, dessen “Filmcrew” eine Handvoll entflohener Geiseln im Iran befreien sollte. Der Film ist aus einer ganzen Reihe von Gründen ziemlich interessant, zunächst mal sieht der Trailer nach ziemlich unterhaltsamen Meta-Kino mit Geheimdienst- und Terrorquatsch aus. Außerdem kamen die Designs des “echten” Films in den 70ern von Comic-Legende Jack Kirby, wobei ich natürlich nicht weiß, ob das in Afflecks Film eine Rolle spielen wird und wenn ja, wie groß die sein wird.

Die Geschichte mit Kirby geht kurzgesagt so: Im Zuge des Erfolgs von Star Wars arbeitet ein Produzent an der Verfilmung des Buchs “Lords of Light” von Roger Zelazny, der ebenfalls eine SciFi-Saga werden soll. Kirby liefert verschiedene Designs, unter anderem für einen geplanten Theme-Park “Science Fiction World”. Der Film landet in der Produktionshölle und wird im Zuge der CIA-Aktion zu “Argo”, dem Fake-Film zur Befreiung der Geiseln. Die Jack Kirby-Story gibt’s auf Comics Alliance: How Jack Kirby’s Art Helped the CIA Rescue Diplomats in 1979, den ganzen CIA-Quatsch kann man sich auf Wired durchlesen: How the CIA Used a Fake Sci-Fi Flick to Rescue Americans from Tehran.

Malcolm hatte vor ein paar Wochen einen taiwanesischen Trailer zum Remake von Totall Recall gepostet, hier der neue “official international trailer” und ich hab’ keine Ahnung, was ich davon halten soll. Sieht einerseits wie glattgebügelter New School-Murks aus Hollywood aus, andererseits lag ich mit meiner Einschätzung des Avengers-Trailer bereits so dermaßen daneben… wie auch immer. Hier der Plot: “As the nation states Euromerica and New Shanghai vie for supremacy, a factory worker (Farrell) begins to suspect that he’s a spy, though he is unaware which side of the fight he’s on.”

Sehr schicke neue Folge von Trailer from Hell: Guillermo del Toro on “The Hunchback of Notre Dame ’39”. Meine persönliche Lieblingsversion ist zwar die 1956er mit Anthony Quinn und den grandiosen Farben, aber hauptsache Quasimodo.

RKO’s biggest budget film to date remains one of the finest literary adaptations ever, and is arguably Charles Laughton’s greatest screen role. His protege Maureen O’Hara never looked more stunning as the gypsy girl. Among the actors considered for Quasimodo were Orson Welles, Bela Lugosi, Claude Rains, Robert Morley and Lon Chaney Jr., whose father made an indelible impression in the earlier silent version. Cedric Hardwicke is creepy in the villain role intended for Basil Rathbone, and Edmond O’Brien is almost unrecognizably young and svelte in his first movie. This was the only picture shown at the first Cannes Film Festival, which was canceled when Hitler invaded Poland.

Toller Trailer zu „Sound of my Voice“ von Zal Batmanglij über ein Journalisten-Pärchen, dass undercover in einer Sekte recherchiert, die eine Dame aus der Zukunft verehrt. Tolle Story, ich bin sehr gespannt!

In SOUND OF MY VOICE, Peter (Christopher Denham) and Lorna (Nicole Vicius), a couple and documentary filmmaking team, infiltrate a mysterious group led by an enigmatic young woman named Maggie (Brit Marling). Intent on exposing her as a charlatan and freeing the followers from her grip, Peter and Lorna start to question their objective and each other as they unravel the secrets of Maggie’s underworld.

Heute wurde auf der WonderCon jede Menge Kram zu Ridley Scotts „Prometheus“ veröffentlicht. Zunächst der obige Full Trailer, nach dem Klick noch der IMAX-Trailer und ein Viral mit David, dem Roboter der Weyland Industries. Auf der Website zu den Weyland-Virals (es gab da noch einen TED-Talk aus der Zukunft, der hat mich aber aus irgendwelchen Gründen überhaupt nicht angemacht) findet man noch eine Timeline der Firma aus Alien. Ziemlich toll, das alles und der Full Trailer sieht natürlich extrem schick aus. Ich bin sehr gespannt, ob der Film dem ganzen Hype am Ende gerecht wird.

Hier der neue Trailer zu Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter. Sieht immer noch doof aus.

Visionary filmmakers Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov (director of Wanted) bring a fresh and visceral voice to the blood-thirsty lore of the vampire, imagining Lincoln as history’s greatest hunter of the undead.

Der im Internet superbekannten Stop Motion-Animator PES wird die Adaption von Art Spiegelmans Garbage Pail Kids übernehmen. PES kennt man vor allem von seinen Videos Western Spaghetti oder Human Skateboard, sein neuester Clip war ein Kurzfilm für Showtime, den ich auf Nerdcore gebloggt hatte: Fresh Guacamole. Art Spiegelmans Maus-Comic ist Legende und Michael Eisner, ehemaliger Disney-Chef, produziert das ganze – er hatte mit einer Partnerfirma im Jahr 2007 die Sammelkarten-Hersteller Topps übernommen, die auch die Garbage Pail Kids-Karten produzierten. Kein Wunder also und besser als die 1987er-Gurke (Trailer unten) kann’s nur werden.

Michael Eisner’s The Tornante Company will finance and produce the development of a feature film based on Garbage Pail Kids, the trading card line published by Topps. Eisner bought the card company in 2007 and this is his first feature spinoff project. Toby Ascher is producing. PES (that is what he goes by) will direct the film, which will be scripted by Michael Vukadinovich, who most recently set his Black List script The Three Misfortunes Of Geppetto at Fox and Shawn Levy’s 21 Laps. PES, an award winning creator of shorts, developed the story with Vukadinovich. His latest film is Fresh Guacamole, and his other shorts include Roof Sex and Western Spaghetti. All of them have been wildly popular viral videos.

Hier der zweite Trailer zu ParaNorman, dem neuen StopMotion-Dings der „Coraline“-Macher. Wird garantiert nicht so schick wie Frankenweenie, aber fast. In einer besseren Welt würde Hollywood nur sowas machen und den ganzen Comic/Transformers/Whatnot-Schrott in die Tonne treten. Yeah, I said this.

Hier der neue Trailer zu meinem Lieblingsfischgemetzel „Piranha 3DD“. Wird komplett trashiger Unsinn und wahrscheinlich toll. Regie führt John Gulager, der bereits die sehr schöne Feast-Trilogie gemacht hatte. Und diesem Casting möchte ich unbedingt beim Fischessen zusehen: Danielle Panabaker, Matt Bush, Gary Busey, Katrina Bowden, Christopher Lloyd, Ving Rhames, Paul Scheer und David Hasselhoff.

Hier der neue Trailer zu The Avengers mit jeder Menge neuen Szenen. Ich werde mir den als Comic-Fan natürlich ansehen müssen, aber ich glaube nach wie vor, dass der hier dem ganzen Comicverfilmungswahn der letzten Jahre mit ‘nem ziemlichen Overkill ein Ende setzen wird. Ich hoff’s jedenfalls.
