Gut gelaunter Trailer zum neuen Aardman-Animationsfilm „The Pirates! Band of Misfits“, hier der Plot: „The Pirate Captain and his crew of swashbuckling pirates attempt to beat his rivals Black Bellamy and Cutlass Liz in the Pirate of the Year Award. On their quest they battle Queen Victoria and meet a young Charles Darwin.“

AMC hat beschlossen, The Walking Dead um eine weitere Staffel zu verlängern. Das ist nicht weiter überraschend, die Zuschauerzahlen sind bislang sensationell, die erste Folge der zweiten Season war die stärkste Eröffnung einer Serie überhaupt. Beim derzeitigen praktisch nicht vorhandenen Erzähltempo (was nicht unbedingt wertend gemeint ist) bin ich mir aber nichtmal sicher, ob wir nächstes Jahr endlich im Knast und beim Governor landen werden. Wie auch immer: Die dritte Staffel kommt.

AMC announced today the renewal of The Walking Dead for a third season. Season 2 continues to deliver the strongest telecasts for any drama in basic cable history against Adults 18-49 shattering a basic cable record set nearly 10 years ago for a single drama telecast (The Dead Zone). The Walking Dead is based on the comic book series written by Robert Kirkman and published by Image Comics. Glen Mazzara serves as series’ showrunner. Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, David Alpert and Frank Darabont are executive producers. Greg Nicotero is a co-executive producer.

“Today we are pleased to announce that the ‘dead’ shall live as we proudly renew The Walking Dead for a third season on AMC and, globally, with our terrific partners at Fox International Channels,” said Charlie Collier, AMC’s President. “We are thankful for everyone’s contribution in front of and behind the camera as we continue to make The Walking Dead a unique television experience. And, we are so proud as it continues to set viewership records around the world.”

AMC Renews The Walking Dead for a Third Season

John Carpenters erster Kurzfilm „Captain Voyeur“ galt lange als verschollen, jetzt wurde er pünktlich zu Halloween in den Archiven der University of Southern California gefunden. Jetzt wird er restauriert und auf irgendeinem Weg veröffentlicht. Ich bin gespannt.

Just in time for Halloween, the first student film from famed horror director John Carpenter has been found in the archives at the University of Southern California and will be restored with the help of a grant from the National Film Preservation Foundation.

Carpenter wrote and directed Captain Voyeur for an introductory film class at USC’s School of Cinematic Arts in 1969. About eight minutes long, the black and white film has visual and thematic ties to the writer-director’s 1978 classic Halloween, according to Dino Everett, the archivist who discovered the preprint materials in a negative at USC’s Hugh M. Hefner Moving Image Archive.

Captain Voyeur follows a man at a boring computer job who eyes a woman at work and follows her home. He dons a mask and attempts to kill her but is shot by his co-worker.

Sehr schöner Trailer zu „Chronicle“, inszeniert von Josh Trank, geschrieben von Max Landis (der Sohn von John Landis). Wird wahrscheinlich nicht ganz so originell wie „Super“, sieht aber dennoch sehr gut aus. Bin gespannt.

Three high school students and friends make an incredible discovery, leading to them developing uncanny superpowers beyond their understanding. As they learn to control their abilities, and initially use them to their advantage, their lives start to spin out of control, and their darker sides soon begin to take over.

io9 hat mit George Romero gesprochen, wo er erklärt, warum er keine Walking Dead-Folge inszenieren wollte („[My Zombies are] much more political“) und dass er derzeit an einer Verfilmung von Professor Dr. Steven C. Schlozman Roman „The Zombie Autopsies“ arbeitet, oben der Trailer zum Buch. Das ganze soll sein Kommentar zur Finanzkrise werden. Nach der „Survival of the Dead“-Gurke erwarte ich ja nicht viel, finde das Konzept des Buchs ziemlich interessant, kurzgesagt geht es um eingeschlossene Ärzte, die mit Zombies experimentieren, ähnlich wie Dr. „Frankenstein“ Logan in Romeros „Day of the Dead“. Ich hab’ die Autopsy-Teile aus dem Interview mal zusammenkopier, von io9:

Are there any other societal issues floating around like now that you would like to attack for another film?

I would love to do something about the economy. But zombies are not good mathematicians — I don’t think they’re going to be out selling cheesy mortgages or anything like that. So it’s tough for me to see that. A friend of mine recently wrote a novel called The Zombie Autopsies, and it’s about an isolated group of people doing autopsies on zombies during the zombie apocalypse and trying to figure out what the hell caused this. They come upon this discovery.

The scientists discover that this is not a naturally occurring virus, they deduce that it must have been created by somebody. And they later discover that it was created by people who were trying to topple the economy. So that’s a unique way in to talk about the economy, but it’s not my story. Steven C. Schlozman is the guys name, he’s a Havard Psychologist who has somehow been swept into the zombie craze and is writing zombie novels.

Den Trailer zur neuen Comicverfilmung „Poulet aux Prunes“ („Huhn mit Pflaumen“) von Marjane Satrapi und Vincent Paronnaud („Persepolis“) hatte ich vor einer Weile bereits gebloggt, jetzt hat Arte einen kleinen, schönen Hintergrundbericht gesendet.

Metropolis hat Marjane Satrapi bereits zu ihrem 2007 gedrehten Animationsfilm „Persepolis“ interviewt, der meisterhaften Verfilmung ihrer gleichnamigen Comic-Autobiografie. Das Gespräch der heutigen Sendung gilt ihrem neuen, auf dem ARTE-Festival „Temps d’images“ gezeigten Werk „Huhn mit Pflaumen“, erneut die Verfilmung eines eigenen Comics. Und wieder ist Marjane Satrapis graphische Handschrift unverkennbar. Diesmal geht es um Liebe und Musik im Teheran des Jahres 1958; und die Trickbilder wechseln mit Sequenzen ab, in denen richtige Schauspieler auftreten.

Hier der UK-Trailer zu „The Woman in Black“ mit Daniel Radcliffe als Geisterjäger. Schöner klassischer Horrorstoff mit Geistern ohne Wackelcam- oder Found Footage-Schnickschnack. Sieht gut aus.

Warner hat sich die Rechte an „Rome Sweet Rome“ gesichert. Das Projekt startete als Thread auf Reddit, wo User The_Quiet_Earth die Frage stellte „Could I destroy the entire Roman Empire during the reign of Augustus if I traveled back in time with a modern U.S. Marine infantry battalion or MEU?“ Darauf gabs einen ganzen Haufen Kommentare und schließlich postete Prufrock451 in den Comments eine mehrteilige Antwort in Form einer Kurzgeschichte. Daraufhin eröffnete die Community ein Subreddit, schnitt Fake-Trailer (Video oben) und spielte mit dem Thema rum und jetzt wird das Ding verfilmt, soweit ich weiß die erste Verfilmung von Comments oder allgemeiner: von Hypertext Fiction überhaupt. Ich bin sehr gespannt, was dabei herauskommt.

Warner Bros. has preemptively purchased the high-concept pitch “Rome, Sweet Rome” from first-time scribe James Erwin, an author and two-time “Jeopardy!” champion from Des Moines, Iowa.

Erwin’s pitch sale came about as a result of several postings on the website Reddit.com, an online community and social news aggregator where users vote to determine which posts land on the site’s home page.

Erwin set out to answer the question: “What if a unit of current U.S. Marines are suddenly transported back to ancient Rome and forced to do battle with the Roman legions?” Pic will follow the Marines as they’re flung into the past where they encounter one of the world’s most legendary villains and disrupt history. To return home, they have to set history back on the track they altered.

Madhouse Entertainment’s Adam Kolbrenner spotted Erwin’s “Rome, Sweet Rome” posts once they reached the top of Reddit and moved quickly to contact the writer and begin working with him to develop the concept. When it came time to find a home for the project, Kolbrenner brought it to WB’s Chris Gary, a young exec who encouraged the studio to move aggressively to acquire it.

Hier der erste Trailer zum neuesten American Pie-Dings „American Reunion“. Ich finde die Idee eines Kuchen-Klassentreffens ja grundsympathisch, musste allerdings an keiner Stelle des Trailers auch nur schmunzeln. Schade.

Neuer Trailer zu Roman Polanskis „Carnage“ mit Kate Winslet, Christoph Waltz, Jodie Foster und John C. Reilly nach dem Theaterstück „God of Carnage“ von Yasmina Reza. Das wird ganz, ganz großartig!

A showdown between two kids: about eleven, in a local playground. Swollen lips, broken teeth… Now the parents of the “victim” have invited the parents of the “bully” to their apartment to sort if out. Cordial banter gradually develops a razor-sharp edge as all four parents reveal their laughable contradictions and grotesque prejudices. None of them will escape the ensuing carnage.

Die Macher der Musicalversionen von Robocop, Terminator II, Conan, Total Recall, Phantom Commando, Rambo II, Predator und Sean Connery haben sich endlich die lustig gemeinte aber eigentlich furchtbare Nöl-Stimme abgewöhnt und eine wirklich tolle Musical-Version von John Carpenters „The Thing“ im Sinatra-Style auf die Beine gestellt. Super!
