X-Posting von Nerdcore: Schöner Trailer zur kommenden Doku „Pablo“ über einen der bekanntesten Typografen und Designer von Filmintros, den kein Schwein kennt. Der Mann hat am gleichen Tag Geburtstag wie ich und gestaltete die Vorspänne oder Trailer zu unter anderem (Achtung, festhalten): Bullitt, Beetlejuice, To Live and Die in L.A., Addams Family, Men in Black, A Clockwork Orange, Good Will Hunting, Jesus Christ Superstar, Zardoz oder Harold and Maude. Whoa! Regie führte ein Mann mit dem bemerkenswerten Namen Richard Goldgewicht.

Pablo blends documentary and animation elements to tell the saga of “famous unknown” Pablo Ferro, a man with a personal journey that spans from Havana, during the pre-Cuban revolution to his current home, in the garage behind his son’s house.

The animation part of the film takes us through the dream-scape of Pablo’s memories, while the documentary footage chronicles a very eccentric lifestyle of a 72 year old artist, once hailed by Stanley Kubrick as the father of the sixties look and the MTV aesthetics.

[The title sequence] was always supposed to be a very abstract version of key moments in the book and about Lisbeth. It was really supposed to be her nightmare sequence. Being a hacker is such a big part of her personality and who she was, we needed some imagery for that but it’s kind of hard to represent that abstractly. So the ones we came up with were the keyboard elements.

I wrote a bunch of various vignettes that I threw in front of David. We were going to treat the keyboard like this giant city with massive fingers pressing down on the keys. Then we transitioned to the liquid going through the giant obelisks of the keys.

Years in the making, Matt Busch is proud to unveil the illustrated Indiana Jones World Map! Perfect timing, being the 30th Anniverary of Indiana Jones this year. Authorized through Lucasfilm, this print is funded by the Adirondack Comicfest and all proceeds from the sale of this print go to American Disabled Veterans.

The map shows all of the locations that Indiana Jones has made archeological discoveries- not just the movies- the novels, the comic books, the Young Indy TV shows, the video games, and more.

There are 36 different archeological artifacts displayed, each illustrated where Indy discovered it, and numbered chronologically. 3 Legend sections list info on the artifacts, including name, city and country, year, title of the story the artifact was discovered in, followed by symbols. The Key chart lets you decipher those symbols for each artifact to see how the story was presented, be it film, novel, TV Episode, etc… In many cases, these stories have been delivered in multiple platforms. In other words, “Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis” was at first designed as a video game, but later developed as a comic book, too…

The prints, limited to 100 or so, were reproduced at actual size. Even Stan Lee got one! I was given access to a vast collection of production stills—each emblazoned with a watermark pattern of my name—from which I selected my favorites. All of the lettering is hand-drawn, with the exception of the small credits at the top and bottom (I ran out of steam). While I did some post-production work in Photoshop, the original looks more or less like what you see here.

Martin Woutisseth hat eine nette Animation aus der Filmografie Stanley Kubricks erstellt. „Fear and Desire“ fehlt, weil „Stanley Kurbrick himself wanted to destroyed all the copy during his whole life. I just respect his choice and didn’t made it.“ Schön!

Am Wochenende tauchte die erste Seite des Scripts von Tarantinos nächstem Film auf, oben eine bereinigte Version davon. Cinemablend denkt zwar, das Ding sei echt, führen aber ein paar (amateurhafte) Argumente im Vergleich mit der ersten Scriptseite von „Inglorious Basterds“ dagegen an, denn sie machen den Fehler und vergleichen ganze Wörter sowie Groß-/Kleinschreibung. Beides spielt in der Graphologie (Handschriftenanalyse) aber eine eher untergeordnete Rolle, weit wichtiger sind Charakteristika einzelner Zeichen sowie der Schriftführung selbst (geschlossene oder offene ‘O’s beispielsweise, zusammenhängende oder unzusammenhängende Buchstaben, generelle Schriftneigung, etc.)

Geht man davon aus, kann man fast zu 99% Sicherheit sagen, dass diese erste Seite authentisch ist, man beachte beispielsweise das auf beiden Seiten fast immer baugleiche ‘s’ oder die geschlossenen ‘o’s in Gegensatz zu den immer offenen kleinen ‘d’s, die generell unzusammenhängende Schrift und die kleinen Kringel-’a's. Ich jedenfalls wette ‘nen Kasten Bier auf die Echtheit des Bilds und den Titel „Django Unchained“, sofern dies nicht nur ein Arbeitstitel ist und noch geändert wird.

[update] Variety hat den Titel bestätigt, hier ein erster Plot:

“Django is a freed slave, who, under the tutelage of a German bounty hunter (Christopher Waltz) becomes a bad-ass bounty hunter himself, and after assisting Waltz in taking down some bad guys for profit, is helped by Waltz in tracking down his slave wife and liberating her from an evil plantation owner. And that doesn’t even half begin to cover it! This film deals with racism as I’ve rarely seen it handled in a Hollywood film. While it’s 100 percent pure popcorn and revenge flick, it is pure genius in the way it takes on the evil slave owning south. Think of what he did with the Nazis in Inglorious and you’ll get a sense of what he’s doing with slave owners and slave overseers in this one.”

Vor 20 Jahren hat Regisseur Tim Burton seinen persönlichsten Film “Edward Scissorhands” in die Kinos gebracht. Anlässlich dieses Jubiläums wird es in der Gallery Nucleus in L.A. eines Ausstellung geben, bei der über 40 Künstler mit unterschiedlichsten Bildern, Zeichnungen, Drucken, Skulpturen und mehr eine Hommage an den Film vorstellen. Ich habe mal meine Lieblingsmotive ausgesucht (nach dem Klick), auf dem Blog zur Ausstellung gibt es aber noch viele mehr zu sehen. Wunderschön!

Tom Hodge hat in enger Zusammenarbeit mit Regisseur Ti West ein zweites Poster zu dessem neuen Horrorfilm “The Innkeepers” entworfen, das wie bereits das erste wunderschön ist. Es hätte sich zwar deutlich besser als Teaser-Motiv angeboten, aber wir können das ja gedanklich einfach umdrehen. Vorfreude wächst und wächst!

Schöne Fotoserie von Howard Schatz für Vanity Fair: Er rief Schauspielern je drei Szenen zu und fotografierte Portraits, unter anderem von Jeff Goldblum, Ricky Gervais, Jane Lynch, Laurence Fishburne, Jeff Daniels, John Goodman, John Malkovich, Geoffrey Rush oder Brooke Shields. Oben Jane Lynch und das hier sollen die drei Hackfressen darstellen:
