In the 1980′s, Romania’s communist regime reached its most drastic stage. Ceausescu became obsessed with repaying Western loans and with building himself a palace of unprecedented proportions. TV was reduced to two hours of broadcast, focused mostly on praising Ceausescu and the regime’s achievements.
It was then that Irina Margareta Nistor dubbed over 5,000 foreign films that entered the country illegally and were distributed on the black market. Her husky and high-pitched voice became the symbol of freedom. ‘Chuck Norris vs. Communism’ follows the story of the tapes, the lives that were touched by them and the people who made it possible for Romanians to escape their harsh reality through the spectacular world of film.

LAST DAYS HERE, the new documentary from Don Argott and Demian Fenton (THE ART OF THE STEAL, ROCK SCHOOL), is a raw yet unexpectedly touching portrait of cult metal legend Bobby Liebling, chronicling his bid to resurrect his life and career after decades wasting away in his parents’ basement.Liebling made his mark in the ’70s as the outrageous frontman of Pentagram, a “street”Black Sabbath whose heavy metal riffs once blew audiences’ minds. But various acts of self-destruction,multiple band break-ups and botched record deals eventually condemned his music to obscurity. Now in his 50′s, wasted by hardcore drug use and living on the charity of his ever-patient mother and father (a former Nixon advisor), Bobby’s music is finally discovered by the heavy metal underground. For over three years filmmakers (and metal musicians) Argott and Fenton are witnesses to his unbelievable journey, following the triumphs and downfalls of this underground icon at the crossroads of life and death.

Netter Trailer zu Keanu Reeves Doku „Side by Side – The Science, Art and Impact of Digital Cinema“ über die Zukunft der Filmproduktion. Für den Film hat Reeves offensichtlich gehörig seine Beziehungen spielen lassen, es wirken unter anderem mit: Steven Soderbergh, James Cameron, David Lynch, Richard Linklater, Martin Scorsese, Lana Wachowski, Andy Wachowski, Christopher Nolan, David Fincher, George Lucas, Robert Rodriguez, Michael Ballhaus, Lars von Trier, John Malkovich, Danny Boyle, Joel Schumacher und Barry Levinson.
Movies were shot, edited and projected using photochemical film. But over the last two decades a digital process has emerged to challenge photochemical filmmaking.
SIDE BY SIDE, a new documentary produced by Keanu Reeves, takes an in-depth look at this revolution. Through interviews with directors, cinematographers, film students, producers, technologies, editors, and exhibitors, SIDE BY SIDE examines all aspects of filmmaking — from capture to edit, visual effects to color correction, distribution to archive. At this moment when digital and photochemical filmmaking coexist, SIDE BY SIDE explores what has been gained, what is lost, and what the future might bring.

Whoa!
Pablo blends documentary and animation elements to tell the saga of “famous unknown” Pablo Ferro, a man with a personal journey that spans from Havana, during the pre-Cuban revolution to his current home, in the garage behind his son’s house.
The animation part of the film takes us through the dream-scape of Pablo’s memories, while the documentary footage chronicles a very eccentric lifestyle of a 72 year old artist, once hailed by Stanley Kubrick as the father of the sixties look and the MTV aesthetics.

CORMAN’S WORLD: EXPLOITS OF A HOLLYWOOD REBEL is a tantalizing and star-studded tribute to Roger Corman, Hollywood’s most prolific writer-director producer, and seminal influencing force in modern moviemaking over the last 60 years. Featuring interviews with Hollywood icons and cinematic luminaries, some who launched their careers within Corman’s unforgettable world of filmmaking, including Paul W.S. Anderson, Peter Bogdanovich, Robert De Niro, Peter Fonda, Pam Grier, Ron Howard, Eli Roth, Martin Scorsese, William Shatner and Jack Nicholson, along with many others, this documentary chronicles how Corman created his cult film empire, one low-budget success at a time, capitalizing on undiscovered talent, and pushing the boundaries of independent filmmaking.
Director Alex Stapleton weaves archival footage following Roger’s illustrious career: From his early days of genre-defining classics including the original Fast and Furious, the original Little Shop of Horrors, The Crybaby Killer, The Intruder, House of Usher, and The Wild Angels (which at that point in 1966 was his 100th film) – to present day video of him and his wife Julie on location, still at work as they continue to produce and distribute films outside the studio system: fast, cheap and out-of-this-world!

“The rise and fall of Napster and the birth of peer-to-peer file-sharing technology created by Shawn Fanning when he was a college student, changed music to movies, and made possible everything from Julian Assange, WikiLeaks to the iPod and Facebook,” Winter told me. “It became an expression of youth revolt, and contributed to a complete shift in how information, media and governments work. And it is a fascinating human story, where this 18-year-old kid invents a peer-to-peer file-sharing system, and brings it to the world six months later.”
Technological Luddites like myself equate Napster with the rampant piracy that hobbled the music industry and killed the album, forcing bands to tour if they want to make money. Winter said a documentary format allows voices on both sides do some venting, but he maintains that Fanning’s intention was a pay system similar to what Apple’s iTunes became. “Nobody wanted to deal with this college kid and the music industry took a hard stance and focused on shutting him down,” Winter said. “It’s a gray area. I can understand Fanning’s side, but I can also empathize with the horror that Metallica’s Lars Ulrich felt when a single that wasn’t even finished ended up on the radio.”
Winter said that Napster’s Fanning and Parker are participating, as well as a group of label heads and musical artists he’s still pulling together.

The new drama centres on a notorious television confrontation that took place on 9 November 1979 between two of the Pythons, Cleese and Palin, and the Roman Catholic writer and broadcaster Malcolm Muggeridge, who believed that Life of Brian was a weak and scurrilous attack on Christianity. At Muggeridge’s side for the debate on the BBC2 show Friday Night, Saturday Morning was the Bishop of Southwark, Mervyn Stockwood.
“You might say Holy Flying Circus is a comedy equivalent of the film Frost/Nixon, marking a historic TV moment, but that was much more factual and we are playful, although the debate itself is verbatim,” explained Harris.
“I do wonder whether viewers will realise that, because some of it is quite extraordinary.” […]
During the TV debate, chaired by the lyricist Tim Rice, Muggeridge called the film “squalid” and “tenth rate”. The bishop levelled some low blows too, accusing the film of being “fourth form revue” standard and implying the Pythons were “mentally deficient”.
“It was a clash of cultures. Palin became quite frustrated, but both he and Cleese remained respectful. But the respect wasn’t returned,” said Harris.

Filmed out of Chicago’s Kartemquin Films, The Interrupters follows a year in the life of the city as it grapples with the plague of urban violence. At the heart of the story are Ameena Matthews, Cobe Williams and Eddie Bocanegra, each of whom has credibility on the street because of their own personal histories. With gumption, wisdom and wit, they work to protect their Chicago communities from the violence they themselves once employed. These “Violence Interrupters” (their job title) — work for CeaseFire, a local organization whose guiding principle is that the spread of violence mimics the spread of infectious diseases, and so respond with similar treatment: go after the most infected, and stop the infection at its source.

Die Rechte an den Sequels „Dramatic Chipmunk strikes back“ und „Return of the Rickroll“ sowie den Spinoffs „How I learned to love Britney and she left me alone“, „Trollolo in the Rain“ und „The Silence of the LOLCats“ haben sie sich entgegen aller Gerüchte noch nicht gesichert.
Internet-Memes, coming to a Cinema near you. I break together. Snip vom Hollywood-Reporter:
The Life and Times of Sneezing Baby Panda is an upcoming mockumentary made for the big screen by Lesley Hammond and Jenny Walsh, Australian wildlife documentarians whose 1999 film about the giant pandas of China produced a viral video clip they’re now turning into a feature film.
The $1.3 million co-production, set to start shooting in China in October with Zhejiang Roc Pictures of Hangzhou, will follow an Australian zoologist whose zoo faces financial difficulties she thinks she might solve if she travels to China to save the black and white fuzzy sneezer whose (real life) video clip still gets more than 150,000 hits per day. […]
Riffing on the Chinese penchant for going way, way back when telling one’s family story, Hammond decided to employ the techniques used in Forrest Gump or Woody Allen’s Zelig before that to place the ancestors of the Sneezing Baby Panda in crucial roles throughout history.

Von The Sudbury Star: „’He’s shy,’ Shatner says of the 30-year-old actor who took over the role of James T. Kirk in 2009′s Star Trek prequel/reboot. ‘So the way I started the interview, I put out a table and chairs outside the Paramount gates, and arm-wrestled with him. That was the beginning of my interview with him. I think it broke the ice, that’s for sure.’“

Thirty years before the antics of Lindsay, Paris and Britney, Joyce McKinney made her mark as a peerless tabloid queen. In TABLOID, Academy Award(R)-winning filmmaker Errol Morris (THE FOG OF WAR) follows the salacious adventures of this beauty queen with an IQ of 168, whose single-minded devotion to the man of her dreams leads her on a labyrinthine crusade for love. Down a surreal rabbit hole of kidnapping, masochistic Mormons, risque photography, magic underwear, celestial sex, jail time and a cloning laboratory in South Korea, Joyce’s fantastic exploits were constant headlines.

After a much-publicized departure from hosting NBC’s Tonight Show – and the severing of a 22-year relationship with the network – O’Brien hit the road with a 32-city music-and-comedy show to exercise his performing chops and exorcise a few demons. The “Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television Tour” was O’Brien’s answer to a contractual stipulation that banned his appearance on television, radio and the Internet for six months following his last show. Filmmaker Rodman Flender’s resulting documentary, Conan O’Brien Can’t Stop, is an intimate portrait of an artist trained in improvisation, captured at the most improvisational time of his career.
It offers a window into the private writers room and rehearsal halls as O’Brien’s “half-assed show” (his words) is almost instantly assembled and mounted to an adoring fan base. At times angry, mostly hilarious, O’Brien works out his feelings about the very-public separation with comedy and rockabilly music, engaging in bits with on-stage guests such as Stephen Colbert, Jon Stewart and Jim Carrey, duetting with Jack White and sweating out manic Elvis Presley covers with his band and back-up singers. We see a comic who does not stop — performing, singing, pushing his staff and himself. Did Conan O’Brien hit the road to give something back to his loyal fans, or did he travel across the continent, stopping at cities large (New York, Las Vegas) and remote (Enoch, Alberta) to fill a void within himself?
