X-Posting von Nerdcore: Netter Trailer zur Zombie-Miniserie Viva Berlin! (Facebook) von Moritz Mohr und Benjamin Munz. Die Serie ist ihre Abschlussarbeit an der Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg und lief im Sommer bereits auf dem Fantasy Filmfest. Ich weiß nicht, ob die Serie wirklich etwas taugt, behalte das aber im Auge. Snip vom FFF:

Der deutsche Zombiefilm erhebt sich aus seinem Grab und startet einen blutigen Blitzangriff auf die Hauptstadt. VIVA BERLIN! heißt das ambitionierte Abschlussprojekt einiger Filmstudenten, die uns darin „Horrorgeschichten ganz ohne Weichspüler“ versprechen: „Genrekost vom Feinsten, so hart und kompromisslos, wie es die Zombiefans kennen und erwarten.“ Und sie lösen dieses Versprechen ein.

Die höchst professionelle Produktion ist für deutsche Verhältnisse von ungewohnter Härte – sowohl vom Gorelevel als auch thematisch. (Kleiner Hinweis: in Berlin werden neuerdings Zombies sexuell missbraucht.) VIVA Berlin! besteht aus fünf thematisch lose miteinander verbundenen Episoden zwischen vier und neun Minuten. Darin geht es so zur Sache, dass eine Ausstrahlung im Fernsehen ohnehin nicht in Frage kommt. Deshalb laden die Jungproduzenten ihre Serie Ende des Jahres ins Netz – dann können die kurzen Folgen, so drückte es der Regisseur aus, „irgendwo zwischen E-Mails, einer Runde World of Warcraft und Youporn angeschaut werden.“

Hier der Trailer zu „The Innkeepers“ von Ti West, der 2010 mit „House of the Devil“ einen meiner Lieblingsfilme des Jahres ablieferte. Innkeepers lief bereits auf dem Fantasy Filmfest, das ich leider verpasst hatte. Jedenfalls dürfte auch das hier ganz großes Kino werden, hier der Plot:

After over one hundred years of service, The Yankee Pedlar Inn is shutting its doors for good. The last remaining employees -Claire and Luke – are determined to uncover proof of what many believe to be one of New England’s most haunted hotels. As the Inn’s final days draw near, odd guests check in as the pair of minimum wage “ghost hunters” begin to experience strange and alarming events that may ultimately cause them to be mere footnotes in the hotel’s long unexplained history.

Sehr schicke Poster und Trailer zu ParaNorman von Studio Laika, die bereits bei CaroCoraline gezaubert haben, dürfte ganz ganz toll werden, hier der Plot: „When a small town comes under siege by zombies, who can it call? Only misunderstood local boy Norman, who is able to speak with the dead. In addition to the zombies, he’ll have to take on ghosts, witches and, worst, of all, grown-ups, to save his town from a centuries-old curse. But this young ghoul whisperer may find his paranormal activities pushed to their otherworldly limits.“

Hier der Trailer zu „Re-Kill“, einem billigen Z-Zombiefilm, der ziemlich unbeholfen geschnitten und editiert ist. Aber ich sehe da ein paar recht originelle Ideen, die dem Thema tatsächlich etwas Neues abgewinnen können und der Film könnte ziemlich viel Spaß machen, auf so ‘ne trashige Art. Wie und wann und ob der überhaupt je bei uns rauskommt ist natürlich fraglich. Wie auch immer, hier der Plot:

It’s been 5 years since the outbreak that wiped out 85% of the world’s population, but the war between Re-Animates (Re-Ans) and Humans wages on. Most of the major cities are still uninhabitable. Within the few surviving cities, the Re-Ans have been segregated into “zones” and are policed by the R-Division of the QUASI S.W.A.T. Unit who hunt to re-kill the Re-Ans in the hope of quelling a second outbreak.

“R-Division, Frontline” is America’s #1 TV show in this Post-Apocalyptic world. Weekly, the show follows different R-Division units on the battlefield as they work to keep America Safe and Re-An free. Jimmy, the videographer for the Outbreak Network, thought this week’s episode would be like every other. He was wrong. Through the lens of his eyes and camera, we see raw, revealed and uncut, that which could be mankind’s last day.

AMC hat beschlossen, The Walking Dead um eine weitere Staffel zu verlängern. Das ist nicht weiter überraschend, die Zuschauerzahlen sind bislang sensationell, die erste Folge der zweiten Season war die stärkste Eröffnung einer Serie überhaupt. Beim derzeitigen praktisch nicht vorhandenen Erzähltempo (was nicht unbedingt wertend gemeint ist) bin ich mir aber nichtmal sicher, ob wir nächstes Jahr endlich im Knast und beim Governor landen werden. Wie auch immer: Die dritte Staffel kommt.

AMC announced today the renewal of The Walking Dead for a third season. Season 2 continues to deliver the strongest telecasts for any drama in basic cable history against Adults 18-49 shattering a basic cable record set nearly 10 years ago for a single drama telecast (The Dead Zone). The Walking Dead is based on the comic book series written by Robert Kirkman and published by Image Comics. Glen Mazzara serves as series’ showrunner. Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, David Alpert and Frank Darabont are executive producers. Greg Nicotero is a co-executive producer.

AMC Renews The Walking Dead for a Third Season

John Carpenters erster Kurzfilm „Captain Voyeur“ galt lange als verschollen, jetzt wurde er pünktlich zu Halloween in den Archiven der University of Southern California gefunden. Jetzt wird er restauriert und auf irgendeinem Weg veröffentlicht. Ich bin gespannt.

Just in time for Halloween, the first student film from famed horror director John Carpenter has been found in the archives at the University of Southern California and will be restored with the help of a grant from the National Film Preservation Foundation.

Carpenter wrote and directed Captain Voyeur for an introductory film class at USC’s School of Cinematic Arts in 1969. About eight minutes long, the black and white film has visual and thematic ties to the writer-director’s 1978 classic Halloween, according to Dino Everett, the archivist who discovered the preprint materials in a negative at USC’s Hugh M. Hefner Moving Image Archive.

Captain Voyeur follows a man at a boring computer job who eyes a woman at work and follows her home. He dons a mask and attempts to kill her but is shot by his co-worker.

io9 hat mit George Romero gesprochen, wo er erklärt, warum er keine Walking Dead-Folge inszenieren wollte („[My Zombies are] much more political“) und dass er derzeit an einer Verfilmung von Professor Dr. Steven C. Schlozman Roman „The Zombie Autopsies“ arbeitet, oben der Trailer zum Buch. Das ganze soll sein Kommentar zur Finanzkrise werden. Nach der „Survival of the Dead“-Gurke erwarte ich ja nicht viel, finde das Konzept des Buchs ziemlich interessant, kurzgesagt geht es um eingeschlossene Ärzte, die mit Zombies experimentieren, ähnlich wie Dr. „Frankenstein“ Logan in Romeros „Day of the Dead“. Ich hab’ die Autopsy-Teile aus dem Interview mal zusammenkopier, von io9:

Are there any other societal issues floating around like now that you would like to attack for another film?

I would love to do something about the economy. But zombies are not good mathematicians — I don’t think they’re going to be out selling cheesy mortgages or anything like that. So it’s tough for me to see that. A friend of mine recently wrote a novel called The Zombie Autopsies, and it’s about an isolated group of people doing autopsies on zombies during the zombie apocalypse and trying to figure out what the hell caused this. They come upon this discovery.

The scientists discover that this is not a naturally occurring virus, they deduce that it must have been created by somebody. And they later discover that it was created by people who were trying to topple the economy. So that’s a unique way in to talk about the economy, but it’s not my story. Steven C. Schlozman is the guys name, he’s a Havard Psychologist who has somehow been swept into the zombie craze and is writing zombie novels.

Hier der UK-Trailer zu „The Woman in Black“ mit Daniel Radcliffe als Geisterjäger. Schöner klassischer Horrorstoff mit Geistern ohne Wackelcam- oder Found Footage-Schnickschnack. Sieht gut aus.

Die Macher der Musicalversionen von Robocop, Terminator II, Conan, Total Recall, Phantom Commando, Rambo II, Predator und Sean Connery haben sich endlich die lustig gemeinte aber eigentlich furchtbare Nöl-Stimme abgewöhnt und eine wirklich tolle Musical-Version von John Carpenters „The Thing“ im Sinatra-Style auf die Beine gestellt. Super!

Hier der erste Trailer zu „The Raven“ mit John Cusack als Edgar Allan Poe auf der Jagd nach einem Serienkiller, der nach den Motiven aus seinen Storys mordet. Ich mag die Vermengung der Motive aus den Poe-Romanen prinzipiell ganz gerne und bin echt kein Purist, aber irgendetwas stört mich am Trailer, ohne dass ich das benennen könnte. Ansehen muss ich mir den allerdings als Genre- und Poe-Auskenner auf jeden Fall.

In this gritty thriller, Edgar Allan Poe (John Cusack, Being John Malkovich) joins forces with a young Baltimore detective (Luke Evans, Immortals) to hunt down a mad serial killer who’s using Poe’s own works as the basis in a string of brutal murders. Directed by James McTeigue (V for Vendetta, Ninja Assassin), the film also stars Alice Eve (Sex and the City 2), Brendan Gleeson (In Bruges) and Oliver Jackson-Cohen (Faster).

When a mother and daughter are found brutally murdered in 19th century Baltimore, Detective Emmett Fields (Luke Evans) makes a startling discovery: the crime resembles a fictional murder described in gory detail in the local newspaper—part of a collection of stories penned by struggling writer and social pariah Edgar Allan Poe. But even as Poe is questioned by police, another grisly murder occurs, also inspired by a popular Poe story.

Realizing a serial killer is on the loose using Poe’s writings as the backdrop for his bloody rampage, Fields enlists the author’s help in stopping the attacks. But when it appears someone close to Poe may become the murderer’s next victim, the stakes become even higher and the inventor of the detective story calls on his own powers of deduction to try to solve the case before it’s too late.

AMC hat gestern Nacht die sechsteilige Miniserie „Torn Apart“ zur in zwei Wochen startenden neuen Staffel von The Walking Dead online gestellt. Die Clips sind okay, die Maske wie schon in der Serie grandios, die Dialoge sind ganz, ganz furchtbar. Aber die Miniserie erzählt die Vorgeschichte einer alten Bekannten, wie sich ganz am Ende herausstellt… und alleine dafür sollte man sie sich (zumindest als Fan) ansehen. Oben der erste Teil, die anderen nach dem Klick.

Hier der neue Trailer zum Thing-Remake. CGI-Creatures und jede Menge Action und völlig überflüssig. Einerseits. Andererseits, wenn man das Original mal außer Acht lässt, könnte das durchaus ein netter Monster-Spaß im Eis werden. Ansehen wird man’s sich definitiv müssen, so oder so.

Hier der Trailer zum dritten Teil des spanischen Found-Footage-Zombiedings [rec]. Dürfte ein Direct-to-DVD-Release werden. Zurecht.

The original REC crew are back, ready to submit their ensemble cast to another fight for survival against the zombie infection. This time to the backdrop of an original soundtrack. The new chapter will see the film “open up” by using a more traditional cinematographic style. However, the film’s roots have not been forgotten, and viewers will still be immersed in the action watching certain events unfold through the eye of the video camera. The action in REC 3 GENESIS encompasses the events of the first two films and after the sense of claustrophobia previously experienced.

The action now takes place miles away from the original location and partly in broad daylight, giving the film an entirely fresh yet disturbing new reality. The infection has left the building. In a clever twist that draws together the plots of the first two movies, this third part of the saga also works as a decoder to uncover information hidden in the first two films and leaves the door open for the final installment the future, REC 4 Apocalypse.

Die Hauptrollen spielen Rebecca Hall, Dominic West und Imelda Staunton, für die Kamera zeichnet der “A Single Man”-DOP Eduard Grau verantwortlich.

1921: England is overwhelmed by the loss and grief of World War I. Hoax exposer Florence Cathcart visits a boarding school to explain sightings of a child ghost. Everything she knew in unravels as the ‘missing’ begin to show themselves.

„American Horror Story“ wird eine neue Serie von den Machern von „Glee“ und soll ein „psychosexual thriller“ werden über eine Familie in einem Geisterhaus. Sieht alles sehr interessant aus, Poster oben, Trailer unten.

It tells the story of the Harmon family: Vivien (Connie Britton) and Ben (Dylan McDermott) and their teenage daughter Violet (Taissa Farmiga). They’ve got plenty of family problems, but their newest one is that they have moved into a straight-up haunted house. And it’s not pleasantly haunted by friendly ghosts that look like Casper, either. It’s haunted by demon-y looking things, and it may possibly cause you to hallucinate, and it has a history of not just spooking but downright … well, devouring the people who live in it.

Netter Trailer zu „The Woman in black“ mit Daniel Radcliffe, klassische Geisterhausstory: „While taking care of a deceased client’s estate, a young lawyer encounters a mysterious woman dressed in black and uncovers a tragic secret.“

Ich weiß zwar nicht, ob die Rolle in diesem viktorianischen Setting in Radcliffes Post-Potter-Karriere nicht zu sehr an den Zauberlehrling erinnert, aber sei’s drum. Sieht okay aus, DVD-Futter. Und apropos Post-Potter: Foreign Policy hatte neulich einen grandiosen Artikel über die Zaubererwelt nach dem Krieg mit Voldemort: Post-Conflict Potter – Voldemort’s dead, but the struggle’s not over. How Harry Potter and the magical world of J.K. Rowling might begin the long process of reconciliation and reform.

Paramount hat letzte Woche den offiziellen Plot zur Verfilmung von World War Z bekanntgegeben und der weicht entscheidend von der Vorlage ab. Das Internet steht Kopf, „what a shame“ hier, „God damn it“ da. Ich denke, das ist eine gute Entscheidung.

Max Brooks Buch ist völlig (Achtung, hier kommt Euer Lieblingswort!) überbewertet. Ja, es gibt einem eine relativ frische Perspektive auf die Zombie-Apokalypse, nämlich eine globale – und die ist tatsächlich eigentlich eher genauso tot wie die lebenden Leichen, denn jedes Zombie-Szenario impliziert ein globales Level, Max Brooks hat das lediglich ausformuliert und das nicht sonderlich elegant. Und ansonsten bietet das Buch keine nennenswerten Charaktere, keinen nennenswerten Handlungsrahmen, ganz zu schweigen von so etwas wie einem Spannungsbogen. Literarisch ist es ohnehin eher trivial und wenn eine Pfeiffe wie der Betreiber des Blogs Topless Robot diese Entscheidung doof findet, dann haben Paramount und Brad Pitt wahrscheinlich genau das richtige getan. Hier jedenfalls der Plot:

“The story revolves around United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Pitt), who traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatening to decimate humanity itself.”

Now, shoot me in the head.
