Nächste Woche am Donnerstag beginnt die diesjährige ComicCon und im Vorfeld hauen die Studios wieder jede Menge Promo-Bits und Poster raus, ich hab’ die interessantesten davon hier mal zusammengefast. Oben erstmal ein neuer Lord of the Ring-Print von Mondo (erstes Pster aus einer ganzen LOTR-Serie), nach dem Klick noch das erste Poster zu Sam Raimis „Wizard of Oz“-Prequel „Oz The Great And Powerful“, drei neue Dark Knight-Poster, eins zu The Hobbit, ein neues Motiv zur dritten Walking Dead-Staffel und ein Poster zu Del Toros „Pacific Rim“.

Slate hat eine Liste mit zehn Filmen, die (zum Glück) nie gemacht wurden, inklusive einer Verfilmung von „Herr der Ringe“ mit den Beatles in den Hauptrollen. Mit McCartney als Frodo (klar), George Harrison als Gandalf, Ringo Starr als Sam und John Lennon als… Gollum? Give peace a chance, oder wie? Lustige Vorstellung, jedenfalls.

It’s widely known that the road to filming Lord of the Rings—first published in 1954—was nearly as long and torturous as Frodo’s journey to Mount Doom. Early on, Tolkien stated a preference for the “vulgarization” of an animated version over the “sillification” of a dramatization. According to Roy Carr’s The Beatles at the Movies, talks were once in the works for a Beatle-zation—with John Lennon wanting to play Gollum, Paul McCartney Frodo, George Harrison Gandalf, and Ringo Starr Sam. Collaborating with director John Boorman, screenwriter Rospo Pallenberg thought the Beatles should play the four hobbits (and agreed with McCartney that he would be the ideal Frodo). It’s difficult, but entertaining, to imagine the Fab Four subsuming their personas to Tolkien’s storytelling, but United Artists decided not to move ahead on the project, with the Beatles or without them.

Wie feiern echte Geeks Weihnachten? Wil Wheaton, selbst ein verbriefter Geek (wie jeder bestätigen wird, der sein unterhaltsames Buch “Just a Geek” gelesen hat), hat die einzig wahre Antwort dazu im Netz entdeckt: Waschechte Geeks nehmen das angesammelte Zuckerzeug und bauen statt einem Knusperhäuschen einfach die Pelennor Fields nach auf denen die große finale Schlacht in LOTR: Return of the King stattfand. Und dann heißt es Gummibär gegen Gummibär, Lakritzschnecke gegen Lakritzschnecke.

Oder um es mit Homer Simpsons zu sagen Mhmmmmm, Minas Tirith.

Letzte Woche hatte der 70minütige Lord of the Rings-Fanfilm „Born of Hope“ auf Dailymotion Premiere und der kann sich anscheinend sehen lassen. Anscheinend deshalb, weil ich mir grade erst den Trailer angesehen habe (hier), den kompletten Film werde ich mir allerdings heute abend mal anschauen.

This hour long original drama is set in the time before the War of the Ring and tells the story of the Dúnedain, the Rangers of the North, before the return of the King. Inspired by only a couple of paragraphs written by Tolkien in the appendices of the Lord of the Rings we follow Arathorn and Gilraen, the parents of Aragorn, from their first meeting through a turbulent time in their people’s history.
