Hier der erste Trailer zu Guillermo Del Toros Kaiju-Film „Pacific Rim“. Holy Crap.

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)—who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

Nächste Woche am Donnerstag beginnt die diesjährige ComicCon und im Vorfeld hauen die Studios wieder jede Menge Promo-Bits und Poster raus, ich hab’ die interessantesten davon hier mal zusammengefast. Oben erstmal ein neuer Lord of the Ring-Print von Mondo (erstes Pster aus einer ganzen LOTR-Serie), nach dem Klick noch das erste Poster zu Sam Raimis „Wizard of Oz“-Prequel „Oz The Great And Powerful“, drei neue Dark Knight-Poster, eins zu The Hobbit, ein neues Motiv zur dritten Walking Dead-Staffel und ein Poster zu Del Toros „Pacific Rim“.

John Rickard, Produzent des Nightmare-Remakes und Final Destination arbeitet derzeit an einer Verfilmung des Game-Klassikers Rampage, in dem man mit Riesenmonstern („George, a King Kong-like gorilla, Lizzie, a Godzilla-like dinosaur/lizard, or Ralph, a giant werewolf“) eine Stadt plattmachen muss.

Rampage reiht sich damit in eine ganze Reihe von Gameklassikern ein, von deren Adaptionen man nun auch schon ewig nichts mehr gehört hat (Space Invaders, Asteroids, Missile Command) und ob da was bei rum kommt… wer weiß.

New Line Cinema has put into development an adaptation of the classic 1980s video game featuring apes and monsters destroying cities.
John Rickard, who has acted as a co-producer on a wide range of New Line movies from A Nightmare on Elm Street and Final Destination to Horrible Bosses and next year’s tentpole Jack the Giant Killer, will produce and is meeting with writers to develop a story for the project.
The game comes from Midway Games, which was acquired by New Line’s sister company Warner Bros. in 2009 for $33 million.

Gegen Riesenmonsterfilme voller Destruction hab’ ich ja per se erstmal nix und das ist auch das einzige Newsbit aus diesem Genre heute morgen:

Guillermo Del Toro began am Montag dieser Woche mit den Dreharbeiten zu Pacific Rim, seinem „beautiful poem to giant monsters“ (Wired) und Ron Perlman ist wohl für eine Rolle darin gecastet worden. Guter Tag für Riesenmonster, heute.

Letzte Woche war ich noch etwas enttäuscht, dass Del Toros Cthulhu-Film „At the mountains of madness“ verschoben wurde (weil Del Toro sich weigerte, den Film als PG-13-Film zu planen) und sein nächstes Projekt „Pacific Rim“ werden würde. Jetzt haben sie den Plot von Rim veröffentlicht und der klingt komplett wahnsinnig, so als würde Del Toro alle Godzilla-Flicks in einem Film vereinen wollte. Mich freut’s!

This project will give the Hellboy filmmaker the opportunity to create two worlds.

The first is an alternate version of Earth in the near future, decades after a historic date in November 2012 when the first kaiju, a towering Godzilla-like beast, emerged from a hole in the Pacific Ocean and attacked the city of Osaka, Japan. The second is “The Anteverse,” another universe on the other side of that gaping portal, 5 miles below our ocean’s surface.

Since the first attack, the rim has been “spitting out” a variety of gigantic monsters at an increasing rate, which then stride out of the ocean and begin destroying sea-bordering cities, like Tokyo and Los Angeles. In order to combat these monstrous, otherworldly menaces, the military developed the “Jaeger” program, which trains teams of two pilots to jointly operate massive, building-sized mechanized suits of armor and high-tech weaponry.
Within the first act alone, we are given enough detailed background on the god-like Jaeger systems, its shared neural piloting system (called “pons”), and the relentless beasts. But Beacham is an absolute master at immediately establishing characters and their conflicts.
