Netter Trailer zu Keanu Reeves Doku „Side by Side – The Science, Art and Impact of Digital Cinema“ über die Zukunft der Filmproduktion. Für den Film hat Reeves offensichtlich gehörig seine Beziehungen spielen lassen, es wirken unter anderem mit: Steven Soderbergh, James Cameron, David Lynch, Richard Linklater, Martin Scorsese, Lana Wachowski, Andy Wachowski, Christopher Nolan, David Fincher, George Lucas, Robert Rodriguez, Michael Ballhaus, Lars von Trier, John Malkovich, Danny Boyle, Joel Schumacher und Barry Levinson.

Restauriert werden im Laufe des Jahres: All Quiet on the Western Front, The Birds, Buck Privates, Dracula (1931), Dracula Spanish (1931), Frankenstein, Jaws, Schindler’s List, Out of Africa, Pillow Talk, Bride of Frankenstein, The Sting und To Kill a Mockingbird.

Der Sydney Morning Herald hat die ersten Bilder von ein paar der Trucks aus dem kommenden vierten Teil der Mad Max-Saga geknippst, kurz bevor sie nach Afrika zum Dreh verschifft wurden. Sequelscheiß hin oder her: Bei Mad Max 4 werd’ ich ziemlich feucht im Schritt.

SOME of the hottest rev-head properties in the world have spent the past few weeks under lock and key at Port Kembla – they are the cars for the next Mad Max film, awaiting transport to Africa.

Security is tight around the dozens of vehicles trucked in from Broken Hill for the fourth instalment of the series, but Fairfax got a sneak peek at some of the trucks and buggies before they shipped out. They include an army of off-road buggies and a posse of menacing-looking trucks.

Also in the collection are several of Max’s own pursuit vehicles, made to resemble the ”Interceptor”, a juiced-up Ford XB GT Falcon coupe driven in the original movie. The number of these vehicles suggests Max’s car may again meet a fiery end, as it did in Mad Max 2: Road Warrior.

Als sie 1983 den ersten Teil zu Karate Kid drehten, haben sie ständig zweite, billige Kameras mitlaufen lassen, damit die Schauspieler die Szenen aus anderen Perspektiven sehen konnten um so ihren Job besser zu machen. Paramount hat letzte Woche den offiziellen Plot zur Verfilmung von World War Z bekanntgegeben und der weicht entscheidend von der Vorlage ab. Das Internet steht Kopf, „what a shame“ hier, „God damn it“ da. Ich denke, das ist eine gute Entscheidung.

Max Brooks Buch ist völlig (Achtung, hier kommt Euer Lieblingswort!) überbewertet. Ja, es gibt einem eine relativ frische Perspektive auf die Zombie-Apokalypse, nämlich eine globale – und die ist tatsächlich eigentlich eher genauso tot wie die lebenden Leichen, denn jedes Zombie-Szenario impliziert ein globales Level, Max Brooks hat das lediglich ausformuliert und das nicht sonderlich elegant. Und ansonsten bietet das Buch keine nennenswerten Charaktere, keinen nennenswerten Handlungsrahmen, ganz zu schweigen von so etwas wie einem Spannungsbogen. Literarisch ist es ohnehin eher trivial und wenn eine Pfeiffe wie der Betreiber des Blogs Topless Robot diese Entscheidung doof findet, dann haben Paramount und Brad Pitt wahrscheinlich genau das richtige getan. Hier jedenfalls der Plot:

“The story revolves around United Nations employee Gerry Lane (Pitt), who traverses the world in a race against time to stop the Zombie pandemic that is toppling armies and governments and threatening to decimate humanity itself.”

Now, shoot me in the head.

Letzte Woche hatte ich bereits gebloggt, dass Darabont mitten in der Produktion der zweiten Staffel von The Walking Dead seinen Hut nahm. Mittlerweile sind die Details auf dem Tisch und die sind nicht schön. 1.) Er wurde gefeuert, weil er es wagte, die Sparmaßnahmen von AMC anzuzweifeln (und so wie man zwischen den Zeilen lesen kann, tat er das recht lautstark). 2.) Der Chef der Programmgestaltung von AMC nimmt für sich in Anspruch, für den Erfolg der Serie verantwortlich zu sein. Nicht die Produzenten oder Schauspieler oder Darabont. 3.) Matthew Weiner (Erschaffer von „Mad Men“) scheint Unmengen an Produktionsbudget für seine Serie von AMC abzuziehen.

Wenn man diese drei Punkte in einen Topf wirft, erkennt man schnell, wie vergiftet die Atmosphäre bei AMC mittlerweile zu sein scheint. Ich bin gespannt, wie das die Verhandlungen über die kommenden Staffeln von Breaking Bad betreffen wird – der Vertrag von Vince Gilligan (Produzent und Schöpfer der Show) läuft mit Ende der aktuellen vierten Staffel aus.

Snip aus einem Artikel beim Hollywood Reporter, ‘The Walking Dead’: What Really Happened to Fired Showrunner Frank Darabont, in dem AMC seine Pläne für die Kostenreduzierung von TWD beschreibt: Ein Show namens The Walking Dead ohne Zombies. „Couldn’t the audience hear the zombies sometimes and not see them, to save on makeup?“

AMC had its own ideas about how to make the show more cheaply. The show shoots for eight days per episode, and the network suggested that half should be indoors. “Four days inside and four days out? That’s not Walking Dead,” says this insider. “This is not a show that takes place around the dinner table.” That was just one of what this person describes as “silly notes” from AMC. Couldn’t the audience hear the zombies sometimes and not see them, to save on makeup? The source says Darabont fought “a constant battle to keep the show big in scope and style.”

Wie Ihr vielleicht wisst, verfilmt Al Pacino grade für HBO das Leben von Musik-Produzent Phil Spector, Erfinder der „Wall of Sound“ und Produzent der Beatles, The Righteous Brothers, Leonard Cohen, der Ramones, Rolling Stones und tausend weiteren Legenden. Am 29. Mai 2009 wurde er wegen der Ermordung von Schauspielerin Lana Clarkson zu lebenslanger Haft verurteilt.

Netter Zusammenschnitt der Effektarbeiten an der derzeit besten Fantasy-Serie. Und, um die Wartezeit bis zur zweiten Staffel noch ein bisschen unerträglicher zu machen: HBO hat angekündigt, die komplette Saga zu verfilmen, solange Autor George R.R. Martin die Vorlagen schreibt, auch über einen Zeitraum von 20 Jahren. That’s a whole lotta Lannister.

According to the news coming out of TCA 2011, the HBO network is in for the long haul with our personal favorite of their television line-up, “Game of Thrones.” Though only the first season has aired so far, Entertainment Weekly reported on the event and has the news that the show will carry through to the end of the book series it is based on.

“We told [author George R.R. Martin] we’d go as long as he keeps writing,” HBO co-president Richard Plepler said.

While we might disagree with HBO programming president Michael Lombardo saying he hopes the show lasts for “20 years” (we’d give it 10 tops since there will only hopefully be seven books), it is good to hear that HBO isn’t planning on jumping dragon part way through their retelling of Martin’s saga.

‘Game Of Thrones’: Unlike Winter, Cancellation Is Not Coming

Mitten in der Produktion verlässt Frank Darabont überraschend die Serienverfilmung von The Walking Dead, nachdem er am Freitag noch im TWD-Panel auf der ComicCon aufgetreten ist. Der Serienstart am 16. Oktober sei davon nicht betroffen und der Grund sei, dass Darabont mit dem schnellebigen Fernsehgeschäft nicht zurechtkomme, nun ja. Ob der Hickhack der Serie gut tun wird, wage ich zu bezweifeln. Andererseits: Sollte die Begründung wahr sein, könnte jemand, der mit dem Serienformat besser zurecht kommt, der Serie durchaus neuen Schwung geben. Wir werden’s sehen.

Just a few days after acclaimed director Frank Darabont took the Comic-Con stage to promote season two of AMC’s The Walking Dead comes this news that he’s stepping down as the series’ showrunner.

Sources say it’s true that Darabont will no longer serve as the chief writer-producer on the series, attributing the decision (without saying whose decision it was…) to Darabont never quite having gotten the hang of switching from films (The Shawshank Redemption, The Mist) to a TV show.
