Hier der komplette Trailer zu „World War Z“. Sieht nicht ganz so schlimm aus, wie ich befürchtet habe und ich mag den Scope und die Totalen. Aber die „WTF ZOMBIE WAVES“ sehen immer noch scheiße aus.

Entertainment Tonight mit ersten Bildern aus der Verfilmung von Max Brooks „World War Z“. Normalerweise bringe ich Trailer-Trailer nicht, aber Ausnahmen bestätigen ja die Regel und hier muss ich zwei Dinge anmerken: 1.) Max Brooks „World War Z“ ist ziemlich überschätztes Mittelmaß. 2.) WTF Wave Of Running Zombies? Look like Crap, actually.

Auf Reddit postet seit Jahresbeginn ein User namens Vidzilla Montagen bekannter Websites während der beginnenden Zombie-Apokalypse. Konsens ist wohl, dass es sich um ein Viral für den ersten Trailer zu „World War Z“ handeln soll, seit dem in einem der Bilder ein Easteregg aufgetaucht ist: „There was an easteregg with a .zip file called 41yad.zip.“ Ziemlich stimmige Theorie, in ein paar Tagen wissen wir mehr und selbst wenn es kein WWZ-Viral ist, finde ich das Dings superunterhaltsam, der könnte gerne so das ganze Jahr weitermachen.

Paramount hat letzte Woche den offiziellen Plot zur Verfilmung von World War Z bekanntgegeben und der weicht entscheidend von der Vorlage ab. Das Internet steht Kopf, „what a shame“ hier, „God damn it“ da. Ich denke, das ist eine gute Entscheidung.

Max Brooks Buch ist völlig (Achtung, hier kommt Euer Lieblingswort!) überbewertet. Ja, es gibt einem eine relativ frische Perspektive auf die Zombie-Apokalypse, nämlich eine globale – und die ist tatsächlich eigentlich eher genauso tot wie die lebenden Leichen, denn jedes Zombie-Szenario impliziert ein globales Level, Max Brooks hat das lediglich ausformuliert und das nicht sonderlich elegant. Und ansonsten bietet das Buch keine nennenswerten Charaktere, keinen nennenswerten Handlungsrahmen, ganz zu schweigen von so etwas wie einem Spannungsbogen. Literarisch ist es ohnehin eher trivial und wenn eine Pfeiffe wie der Betreiber des Blogs Topless Robot diese Entscheidung doof findet, dann haben Paramount und Brad Pitt wahrscheinlich genau das richtige getan. Hier jedenfalls der Plot:

Die Verfilmung von Max Brooks (ja der Sohn von Mel Brooks) Bestseller tut sich weiterhin sehr schwer. Obwohl mit Brad Pitt ein zugkräftiger Name und mit Mark Forster ein erfahrener Regisseur an Bord sind, fehlt Paramount wohl der Mut und die Investoren diese 125 Mio$ teure Zombie-Extravaganz in Produktion zu schicken, die die Bemühungen eines Reporters schildert den Ablauf einer weltweiten Zombie-Epidemie nachzuverfolgen. Nachdem es schon fast so aussah, als wäre das Projekt tot, erweist es sich jetzt, wie Vulture berichtetdoch als Untot. Der Film hat noch eine letzte Chance, allerdings nur als entschärfter Kinderfilm mit PG13-Rating:

Paramount Film Group president Adam Goodman insists to Vulture, “We’re really committed to making a big, kick-ass giant movie with Marc Forster and Brad Pitt.” Pressed on whether the studio would move forward without a financial partner, Goodman declined to elaborate, saying it was too early to tell. Absent such a financial partner, it’s highly unlikely that Paramount would go forward; in today’s economic climate, few studios are shouldering such budgets alone. Just two weeks ago, Universal shut down Guillermo del Toro’s similarly costly and graphic adaptation of the H.P Lovecraft novel At the Mountains of Madness. But, to be fair, Del Toro was intent on an R rating, while Goodman says that Paramount signed a deal with Forster assuring them of a PG-13 cut.

Schlimm genug, dass DelToros sicher hochspannende “Mountain of Madness”-Adaption flach fällt – aber einen Film über die Zombie-Apocalypse als PG13-Film? Sheeesh.

Als ich das letzte mal was von der Filmadaption von Max Brooks „World War Z“ hörte, lag der Film auf Eis und das Projekt galt als „drop dead“. War mal wieder Filmgerüchtebullshit, denn auf der Comic Con hat Max Brooks selbst MTV erzählt, dass der Film kommt, Brad Pitt die Hauptrolle spielen wird und Paramount gleich noch zwei weitere seiner Zombiebücher verfilmen will.

While chatting up “World War Z” author Max Brooks at the booth for comic publisher Avatar Press, the writer confirmed to MTV News that the adaption of his novel about the zombie apocalypse is not only moving forward, but Brad Pitt is now officially attached to star in the film. Additionally, Brooks revealed that Paramount has optioned the movie rights to two more of his projects: “The Zombie Survival Guide” and “The Zombie Survival Guide: Recorded Attacks” graphic novel.

Pitt’s production company Plan B Entertainment first secured the rights to “World War Z” back in 2007 after a bidding war with Leonardo DiCaprio’s company, Appian Way. The actor has long been rumored as a potential lead for the film, but Brooks received the call confirming Pitt’s attachment (and the other “Survival Guide” deals) while signing copies of the books at the Avatar booth tonight (Wednesday, July 21) during Preview Night at Comic-Con.
